Keep Your Resolutions
January 2, 2025
You do it; I do it; everybody does it.
With every new year, we all get another shot at building the lifestyle and body of our dreams with our resolutions—and we all know how that story goes; by the time March rolls around, we’re lucky to even remember the promises we broke to our minds and bodies. At Diced Kitchen, our best clients understand there is a good reason why this happens—and how to end it.
You break resolutions because your mind loves being on autopilot.
When you make a resolution, your heart is in the right place but your mind is still on the fence. It has to stay in autopilot for you to keep a clear sense of your identity—otherwise you’d drop everything to become an actor one week, then the next week you’re angling at a professorship in underwater basket weaving.
So give it a new give it a side-gig.
For your resolutions to stick, you need to show your mind you mean business by turning your resolution into a side-gig. Make one bold statement—just the one—with clear simplicity like “i will lose 20 pounds in 3 months.”
Just like that, you now have a fun new side-gig for 3 months. 20 pounds may sound intimidating, but when you break it down to just 1.6 pounds per week, it becomes a lot easier.
Then go sure and steady.
Ask yourself what 1.6 pounds looks like in the foods you eat, and what you can do to eat healthier foods before or after them. When you’re ready, you remove a little bit from those unhelpful foods until there’s nothing left.
For example, if the local burger joint knows you by name, first eat a leaf and tomato wrap then have your burger as usual. The next week, eat the same burger with a lettuce wrap as a bun. The next week, remove a patty, then the cheese and so on.
Weeks later, you look up and you’re eating a lettuce wrap followed with a salad, and you’re wondering why you’re at a burger joint instead of making this at home for a fraction of the price. Since you’re home, why not get creative and add a deviled egg in there.
By slowly sneaking in your resolution, you taught your mind that salad = burger. This slow re-training of your mind works with almost any habits you want to change or add to build your dream lifestyle. For this six month gig, you get paid with:
- Cheaper grocery bills
- More energy to do what you love
- A more attractive and healthier body
- A quicker and sharper mind
For life.
Your body and mind are your greatest employees. They’re with you thick and thin, forever, and will happily turn your resolutions into the lifestyle of your dreams. All you have to do is be the boss and put them to work.
